The Children’s Tomatina: The Most Fun Party for Kids!

La Tomatina is not just a festival for adults—now children can also enjoy this iconic event with the Children’s Tomatina! This event, exclusively for the little ones, has gained popularity and secured its future with the seventh edition of the Children’s Tomatina in 2025, which will take place on August 23 at 12:00 p.m. in Buñol’s Plaza del Pueblo, in the Valencian Community, Spain.

What is the Children’s Tomatina?

The Children’s Tomatina was created in 2013 as an adapted version of the famous tomato festival so that children aged 4 to 14 could enjoy the same experience as adults but in a safer and more controlled way. Held on the last Saturday of August, this festival offers the perfect opportunity for kids to take part in this traditional tomato battle. The duration of this “mini-battle” is approximately 30-40 minutes, allowing children to have fun without exhausting themselves.

Rules of the Children’s Tomatina

The Children’s Tomatina has some key rules to ensure that everyone enjoys the battle safely:

  • Squeeze the tomatoes before throwing them: This softens the impact and reduces the risk of injury.
  • No foreign objects allowed: Do not bring water balloons, stones, or any other objects that could cause harm.
  • Keep a safe distance: Stay away from the trucks unloading the tomatoes and from other participants to avoid accidents.
  • Follow the instructions from officials: Event staff are there to ensure the festival runs smoothly, so follow their instructions.

Practical Tips to Enjoy the Children’s Tomatina

To make the most of this experience, follow these practical tips:

  • Wear old clothes: It’s recommended to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or damaged, such as a white t-shirt.
  • Wear closed shoes: Preferably sneakers that you can dispose of after the event. Flip-flops can easily get lost in the battle.
  • Protect your eyes: Swimming or diving goggles are essential as the acidity of the tomatoes can irritate your eyes.
  • Prepare your camera: If you want to take photos, make sure to use a waterproof camera or protect it with a waterproof case.
